Toxicity of fixed oil and crude extract from sa-dao-thiam, Azadirachta excelsa (Jack) seed kernel to Aedes aegypti (L.) Thai Agricultural

Larvicidal activity of various concentrations of fixed oil and crude extract from sa-dao-thiam, Azadirachta excelsa (Jack) seed kernel was assayed on an Aedes aegypti (L.) test population under controlled laboratory conditions. Concentration levels of responses at 24, 48, 72, and 96 hrs were evaluated. The LC50 values of the fixed oil and the crude extract were 403.6 and 518.7 ppm, respectively. One hundred percent mortality in 24 hrs-post treatment was achieved at 2,000 and 4,000 ppm for the oil and crude extract, respectively. It suggested that the oil is more toxic to Ae. aegypti larvae than the crude extract. The efficacy of bispyribac sodium, fenoxaprop-p-ethyl + ethoxysulfuron, and propanil+butachlor were evaluated in greenhouse and field experiments, Weed Science, Crop and Environmental Sciences Division, IRRI in February - April 2013. The field plots had high weed density that had 4-6 leaves when the herbicides were applied at 15 days after land preparation. In the greenhouse experiment we grew Echinocloa crus-galli, Ludwigia octovalvis, Cyperus iria, weedy rice (Oryza sativa f. spontanea Acc. 105798 (THA)), and rice cultivars KDML105 and IR64 in pots. Weeds play an important role in decreasing yield in dry-direct seeded rice. However, using herbicide could effectively control weed and help increase rice yield. The objective of this research was to investigate the effect of herbicide application on weed control and rice yield in dry-direct seeded paddy field. The experiment was conducted at a farmer’s field, Khon Kaen province, from June to November of 2012 with the use of rice variety KDML 105. The nine treatments were 1) no weeding, 2) hand weeding, 3) oxadiazon, 4) oxadiargyl, 5) oxyfluorfen, 6) pendimethalin, 7) butachor/propanil, 8) clomazone and 9) bispyribac-sodium. Study on Al toxicity level and properties of highland soils in Khun Wang and Inthanon areas wasconducted in 31 pedons, aiming at assessing the relationship between level of Al toxicity and soil properties in order to provide equations suitable for predicting Al saturation of studied soils. Soil pits were used for this research, which included the investigation of general environments of the areas selected. Soil samples were collected with respect to soil genetic horizon and analysed using standard procedures. Soils in both areas were formed from gneiss, granite and diorite and well developed.
